Forward issue with https

Hi there. I have two domains: jeffsplacemetrowest.org and jeffplace.org. The former is older and we wanted it to forward to the latter. The GoDaddy forwarding feature I used works except when the original URL begins with https (https://jeffsplacemetrowest.org/). Then I get the following message in Chrome:

Your connection is not private

Attackers might be trying to steal your information from jeffsplacemetrowest.org (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards). Learn more

NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID

This is a big problem because Google search results point to the https URL for the original domain. So anyone who searches for us gets an error when they click a search result.

According to the GoDaddy support I spoke with, the forwarding feature will not work with https. This seems kinda lame, as my scenario must be fairly common. I have to think there is a means of solving this. Any suggestions? Thanks!

This is correct as GoDaddy does not issue an SSL certificate for forwarding domains.

Option 1) do the redirect at the server level vs the DNS level and then install your own certificate.

If Option 1 is not available / feasible - CloudFlare offers SSL forwarding when you put the domain on their DNS - I don't know the exact steps but I have suggested this to others and they have been successful with it.
