Seems like this should be easy but I'm having trouble. I originally purchased a domain through Etsy, which I then linked to my Shopify store using DNS records and had no issues. I have since gotten rid of Shopify and just want my domain www.thriftedhoney.com to forward onto my Etsy shop URL, which is www.etsy.com/shop/thriftedhoney. I purposefully transferred my domain from Etsy (Tucows) to GoDaddy so that I could do this.
My only DNS record: A record is 220.127.116.11
Etsy shop: www.etsy.com/shop/thriftedhoney
I keep getting this same message on the Domain Manager page when I try to forward my domain: An unexpected error occurred. If this issue continues, contact support. Below is what I have filled out that's NOT working.
Forward to http://www.etsy.com/shop/thriftedhoney
Can anyone please help me understand this? Am I missing some more DNS records? I apparently am using external nameservers which might be a problem, but I don't know how to fix that.
Solved! Go to Solution.
When you copy/paste the URL in the forwarding block, are you leaving in the http:// portion? If so, take it out.

Hi @camilleamaupin. Thanks for posting. It looks like you've been able to resolve this issue. I am forwarded to your Etsy site when I visit your domain. If so, please consider following up here with the steps you took to resolve the issue. Others may benefit from what you've experienced. Thanks!
Yes, I resolved the issue on my own! I'll try my best to explain...
My nameservers were connected on a site other than GoDaddy which was not letting me forward my domain. I even did the live chat with a GoDaddy specialist and he was not able to help me.
In DNS Management, I went to edit my nameservers and changed them to default, instead of custom. This gave me automatic default GoDaddy nameservers.
Custom nameservers: portal.dynect.net
Default GoDaddy nameservers: ns59.domaincontrol.com
After I did this it told me my domain was not being used, and would I like to set up a website, forward my domain, etc. I was then able to forward my domain with no issues.
