Exclude directory from WP install

I've seen various topics regarding the exclusion of a single file, but I am needing to know how one edits the .htaccess file inside Godaddy's managed wordpress installation to allow a subdirectory to act on it's own.

While WP will be running the site, I need to place another software installation (PHP based) inside a subdirectory of the same site. Sadly, when going to it right now, wordpress takes over the link and won't allow access to the subdirectory, thinking it's just "not a wordpress file" in essence.

I've tried editing the .htaccess file with a rewrite condition:

# BEGIN WordPress
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} "/folder_to_exclude/"
  RewriteRule (.*) $1 [L]

But it has not worked.

Any suggestions on how to make WP play nice?

Hello @KevanR!

Thank you for posting. I've moved your post to a board that better fits it's subject. You should get more attention here.
