My links no longer work in a browser (edge or Chrome) without a file extension htm?

Did something change with file extensions? My links no longer work in a browser (edge or Chrome) without a file extension. Used to be I could link to example http://guruofbrew.com/three_taverns_morning_smack

and it would load just fine. Now it will not work unless linked to

http://guruofbrew.com/three_taverns_morning_smack.htm

This happens with search results too from Bing or google. Any ideas?

Re: links not working without htm

Your website seems like it would be ideally represented using a product line GoCentral @guruofbrew. I'm not sure if the feature set, prices and options fit your budget but I thought I'd first note that. It might be a bit of a complex answer but I'd usually enable multi-views in a .htaccess file to accomplish that? It would look something like:

Options +MultiViews
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^([^\.]+)$ $1.php [NC,L]

But I'm not sure if that works for you or not? Different servers are setup to handle extensions differently, I'm not sure if the are perhaps some recent account/server changes? The bottom line is some servers (depending on OS, setup, settings) are more finicky than others. Does this solution seem like it would work for you?

Re: links not working without htm

Hi @guruofbrew ,

@rd is spot on with his GoCentral suggestion and with the solution.  Part of your issue may very well be that something on your server changed.  I noticed that you are running on http and not https.  In the past 12-18 months Google (and other services) have virtually required hosting providers and web site owners to put https at the top of the priority for serving web pages.  So, many changes in server presentation of a web page were made.  At some point in time it is likely (not concrete) that the top level access control files were modified to accomodate the changes.

Hope this helps,

James

Re: links not working without htm

First, thank you @rd & @JMPepper! I have been using Yahoo web hosting and I am in the process of shifting to Go Daddy because I have not been happy with them for a while. My problem with pages not loading started with them. I transferred all the content from my old site here to Go Daddy but I am having the same issue, so curious if the server changes would be the same for both providers? I just purchased SSL from Go Daddy and I am waiting for it to kick in, so we will see if that makes a difference.

Re: links not working without htm

There probably are some slight code changes from moving hosting @guruofbrew. I find that occasionally different severs and platforms will not display the exact same. My suggestion is that you use this as an opportunity to refresh your website. Often the most difficult thing is website content but the good news is that you already have that covered.

Welcome to GoDaddy service and if you run into issues you know where to come.
