No .htaccess file causing blank website

My website is currently not showing any content (although it did a couple of years ago). GoDaddy support noted that I didn't have a .htaccess file in my public_html folder an suggested I add one. I am using cPanel. How do I go about adding that? Every article I've seen is people adding it to fix a specific problem.

Thank you for your help!

The only reason you should need an .htaccess file is if you wanted to redirect the URL or have it load a .html instead of a .php

Without knowing what files are in your file manager it's hard to say what the answer might be.

Thank you for your reply! I was just told by GoDaddy support that adding the .htaccess file would fix the issue but not exactly why they thought that. I'll keep trying to find solutions.
